As part of the Congress party’s nationwide ‘Shakti – Super SHE’ programme for women empowerment, South Goa District Youth Congress on Sunday on Sunday held a women’s bike rally that was flagged off at Sanguem bus stand.
Shakti – Super SHE, conceived by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), is aimed at helping to help women to stand up for themselves,
The rally witnessed numerous bike-borne women riding their vehicles in Sanguem town.
State In-Charge for Goa Pradesh Youth Congress and National Secretary of Indian Youth Congress Richi Bhargava said that the rally was held as a tribute to the country’s first woman Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi.
“Shakti SuperShe is a special programme geared towards women’s empowerment and increasing their political involvement under the Indian Youth Congress. We held a women’s bike rally, organised by South Goa District Youth Congress, to pay special homage to the former and first Woman Prime Minister of India Late Smt. Indira Gandhij,” she said.
“It is our honour and privilege that the Indian Youth Congress empowers women not only through 33% reservation for women within Indian Youth Congress, but also by providing a special space under the Shakti SuperShe programme to foster and mentor future women leaders in Indian politics. As National Secretary, the State In-Charge for Goa Pradesh Youth Congress and National In-Charge for Shakti SuperShe program, I thank our party leadership for giving women groundbreaking support and space,” she added.
President of South Goa District Youth Congress Mahesh Nadar said that the Congress believes in protecting women’s rights.
“We held the women’s bike rally to pay tribute to our Former PM Indira Gandhiji on her death anniversary. Shakti Super She is a women’s campaign launched by IYC, and we believe in empowering women, protecting their rights and educating them about the power they wield to change things around them. We have covered areas like Sanvordem, Curchorem, Sanguem and Quepem. We thank the women from these constituencies for coming forward and making the rally a big success. We will run this campaign throughout Goa and continue with our bike rallies in other constituencies,” said Nadar.
