The Progressive Calangute Front’s special screening of the movie Chhaava at Inox Theatre in Porvorim Mall, Goa, was a huge success, attended by over 400 women from Calangute. The event was graced by prominent leaders, including BJP Goa President Shri Damu Naik, ex-Deputy Sarpanch and BJP leader Sudesh Mayekar, and others.

Sudesh Mayekar deserves special mention for taking the initiative to organize this special screening for the women of Calangute. His efforts brought the community together, fostering unity and a sense of shared values. The movie Chhaava inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s novel, chronicles Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s unwavering resistance against Aurangzeb, marked by courage, strategy, and betrayal.¹
The film’s themes of nationalism, self-reliance, unity, and empowerment resonated deeply with the audience. It was a remarkable experience that reaffirmed the commitment to preserving and promoting the community’s culture, values, and traditions.
