Goa Pradesh Youth Congress members on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to DySP, Margao Santosh Desai regarding the nuisance of hawkers and beggars at the Navelim feast fair.

President of South Goa Youth Congress Mahesh Nadar, who was accompanied by other party members, said that the DySP was apprised of this issue as it affects feast goers and locals, and was urged to deploy additional police personnel at the feast fair that is held for nearly 2 weeks.

“People come to enjoy this feast. Those who run their business should not face such problems. Everything should run smoothly there. We requested the DySP to deploy additional police staff and take action against such hawkers and beggars. He has assured to act in this regard,” Nadar said.

“Several local and traditional vendors set up their stalls at the fair. However, several others also set up unauthorized stalls. Beggars also occupy the pathways and main roads hampering the movement of traffic. The police needs to act on this. Begging is an offence and hence police should crackdown on the menace, not just during such fairs, but throughout the year,” he said.
South goa youth congress District committee member, Valent Barbosa was also present.
